Abstract Characters with Soul: Microsoft Avatars by Tendril
Published Oct 22, 2025
Tendril, a creative studio with offices in Canada and Brazil, teamed up with the Microsoft Design team a few years back to reimagine digital identity through this amusing series of quirky 3D avatars.
The project explores the idea of expression beyond the human form, creating abstract, geometric characters that still manage to convey emotion, personality and warmth. Each character in the series combines colorful shapes, tactile materials and googly-eyed charm to evoke feelings of joy and individuality without relying on traditional facial features.
You can see more of Tendril’s work on their website and Instagram.
