Arc ZERO: Eclipse — An Ethereal Light Installation by James Tapscott
Published Nov 20, 2025
Australian artist and designer James Tapscott brings his Arc ZERO: Eclipse installation to Seoul as a permanent piece that turns a rooftop garden into a quietly transcendent space.
At the center of this piece is an 8-meter half-ring of polished stainless steel that rises from a reflecting pool, with its mirror image completing the circle. By day, the form is crisp and minimal. By night it becomes something otherworldly: a floating ring of illuminated mist that shifts with wind and humidity, glowing like an eclipse suspended over the city. Designed with a custom diamond-profile to reduce self-reflection, the ring frames the nearby cable-stayed bridge, integrating itself seamlessly into the skyline.
This new iteration evolves James’ long-running Arc ZERO series, following earlier temporary versions installed in remote landscapes like Lake Tyrrell, as well as at Melbourne’s RISING Festival and the Bay Art Festival in Shenzhen. Images of these earlier version can also be seen below.
