Built to Be Seen: Icelandic Lighthouse Photography by Siggeir Hafsteinsson

Icelandic designer and photographer Siggeir Hafsteinsson, also known as Sig Vicious, has a fascination with the lighthouses scattered along Iceland’s rugged coastline. In his photographic series Built to Be Seen, he captures these distinctive structures against spectacular natural backdrops, revealing how their bold shapes and colors interact with the ever-changing landscape.

Captured across different locations and over several years, the collection showcases an impressive variety of architectural styles, from bright orange and yellow beacons to towering white structures perched on dramatic cliffs. Some stand against snow-covered mountains and turbulent seas, while others emerge from golden grasslands or rocky shores beneath pastel skies.

Siggeir makes wonderful use of natural light, capturing everything from fiery sunsets and heavy storms to the ethereal glow of the Northern Lights. There’s a strong graphic quality to his compositions, with the geometric silhouettes of the lighthouses creating striking focal points amid Iceland’s vast, untamed scenery.
