Chasing Winter on Two Wheels: The Snow Cycling Photos of Jakub Rybicki

Adventure photographer Jakub Rybicki seeks out the kind of trips most people would call impossible, or just plain crazy. For him, that’s where the fun really begins. His snow cycling expeditions have taken him through the frozen trails of Sweden’s Kungsleden, across Greenland’s Arctic Circle, and over the vast ice of Siberia’s Lake Baikal.

In Sweden, Jakub pedaled under the shimmering glow of the Aurora Borealis, tackling a route better suited for skis. “With skis you steadily move forward. With a fatbike, you fight,” he writes. The reward? That rush of flying downhill past skiers who’d been overtaking him for days.

Greenland brought an entirely different challenge: no roads, no support, just hours of pushing wheels through deep snow. But for Jakub, the effort is worth it for “life-changing experiences” and landscapes so immense they defy imagination.

Another place he explored is Lake Baikal, the oldest and deepest lake on Earth, which transforms in winter into a 636-kilometer stretch of glassy ice. Temperatures dipped as low as -35°C, but cycling across this natural wonder offered him the most exhilarating way to experience it.
