Cities in Fine Lines: Ink and Watercolor Drawings by Stefan Bleekrode
Published May 22, 2026
Dutch artist Stefan Bleekrode creates meticulous ink and watercolor cityscapes filled with rooftops, towers, plazas and streets, all built through a remarkable command of line, light and architectural detail.
His work evolved from a lifelong fascination with travel and imagined places. Stefan has been drawing since childhood, first creating fictional cities on paper before gradually folding in the villages and urban scenes he encountered on trips through Europe and North America. Today, those references become elaborate compositions that sit somewhere between memory, observation and invention, with real-world locations expanded into dense, cinematic urban worlds.
Rendered mainly in ink and watercolor, the drawings are packed with information. Roof tiles, façades, bridges, markets, churches and distant hills are all handled with careful precision, while the absence of movement gives each scene a strange stillness. Stefan’s interest in architecture, shadow and geometric composition runs through the work, turning familiar city views into slow, absorbing studies of place.
