Color as a Disguise: Creative Portraits by Nassia Stouraiti

Athens-based freelance photographer Nassia Stouraiti creates portraits that treat the face as a surface for colour, texture and transformation. Her images span fashion editorial, self-portraiture and visual experimentation, using painted masks, translucent fabric, flowers, stickers, jewellery and everyday materials to shift the body into something more graphic and cinematic.

Alongside her work with models, Nassia’s portfolio includes many self-portraits, some of which were collected in SOLO, a photo book published in 2023 by Snap Collective. Starting in 2019, she began using herself as a canvas, building a personal visual language around disguise, exposure and reinvention. The book frames that process as a journey of self-discovery, where each image reveals a different facet of her personality through styling and light.

Her influences from cinema come through in the way each portrait feels carefully staged, but never static. Across the series, Nassia uses portraiture as a tool for self-exploration, creating images that are intimate, strange and sharply composed.
