Dark Fables and Sharp Allegories: Recent Illustrations by Roger Olmos
Published May 6, 2026
We previously featured a collection of strange, whimsical illustrations by Roger Olmos here on the grid, and his newer pieces drift into darker themes, pushing further into the uneasy space between fable, satire and nightmare. The Barcelona-based illustrator has published more than 100 titles internationally, after beginning as a scientific illustrator before specialising in children’s illustration.
Across these works, Roger’s familiar approach is still there: fine pencil textures, theatrical characters, expressive animals and carefully staged compositions. But the tone is sharper. Some of the pieces were created for Kosmos, a book by Italian author Matteo Meschiari, placing Roger’s atmospheric world-building in service of a post-apocalyptic narrative.
