Dreamy, Psychedelic Illustrations by Monet Alyssa
Published May 12, 2026
Buffalo-based illustrator and artist Monet Alyssa creates vivid, high-contrast images where figures move through psychedelic worlds of music, fashion, nature and Afrofuturist imagination.
Monet combines digital and traditional media to celebrate and elevate her subjects, framing Black women and musicians as mythic presences rather than passive figures. That intent carries through her client work, from Khruangbin concert posters and editorial commissions for Vanity Fair and The New Yorker to a commemorative portrait of John Coltrane for the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s jazz festival. Beyond editorial and music projects, her work has appeared across Buffalo metro buses for Black History Month, as well as on a two-storey mural in her hometown.
