Godby Hotel & Nightbird Branding by Pop & Pac

Melbourne-based studio Pop & Pac created the charming identities for Godby Hotel and Nightbird, two venues sharing a single address inside the city’s former South Yarra railway station. Drawing inspiration from the building’s history and architectural details, the project brings together vintage-inspired typography, warm color palettes and playful illustrations to give each venue its own distinctive personality.

At Godby Hotel, the identity revolves around a fictional character who serves as the venue’s charismatic host. Part station master and part old-fashioned publican, Godby appears in a series of illustrations wearing a top hat and holding everything from beer mugs to cocktail shakers to suit different occasions. Drawn in a loose, mid-century cartoon style, he can be found across menus, coasters, glassware and staff uniforms.

Downstairs, Nightbird takes on a more intimate and sophisticated character. The hi-fi listening lounge features its own illustrated muse, a glamorous, vintage-inspired woman depicted enjoying cocktails, cigarettes and music. A darker palette, refined serif typography and beautifully detailed printed materials establish a seductive atmosphere that contrasts with the lively personality upstairs.
