Illustrator 1000DAY Turns Loose iPad Linework Into Loud Color
Published Jul 9, 2026
South Korean illustrator and character designer Jang Suk-woo, better known as 1000DAY, fills his ongoing series of iPad sketches with bold color, loose gestures and an infectious sense of energy.
Created in Adobe Fresco, the illustrations feel like calligraphy crossed with graffiti, combining sweeping lines, scattered brush marks and overlapping blocks of vivid pink, yellow, orange, blue and green. Faces, animals and imaginative characters emerge from this controlled chaos, their personalities captured through exaggerated expressions and spontaneous poses. The unfinished quality is part of their appeal, preserving the speed and freedom of the original sketch while allowing stray lines, textures and translucent colors to remain visible.
Alongside his illustration and character-design work, Jang is also an accomplished paper-toy artist. His distinctive visual language has led to collaborations with clients including Intel, Foot Locker, Fila, ESPN, SBS, Hyundai Outlet, Seoul City Hall and the Seoul Olympic Museum, among others.
