Jewels of the Forest: Luminous Botanical Compositions by Viera Babecova
Published Feb 12, 2026
Slovak photographer Viera Babecova continues her exploration of plants with a striking series captured at the Jewels of the Forest exhibition, held in the collection greenhouses of Flora Olomouc back in 2022. Instead of documenting the orchids as botanical specimens, she isolates them against deep black backgrounds, turning petals, stems and seed pods into sculptural forms suspended in darkness.
Through controlled lighting and precise editing, Viera isolates each flower to emphasize symmetry, structure and surface detail. Veins become clearly defined lines, petals shift between cool blues and warmer bronze tones, and repeated stems are arranged into deliberate radial compositions. Some images focus on a single bloom, others build mirrored patterns from multiple elements, but all remove the greenhouse setting to concentrate attention on form and texture.
