Lived-In Still Life Paintings by Paolo Quaresima

Italian artist Paolo Quaresima transforms ordinary household objects into elaborate, colorful compositions that go far beyond traditional still life painting. Born in Merano in 1962, Paolo studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he developed an appreciation for atmospheric light and vivid colors.

His intricate scenes feature everything from enamel teapots, glossy ladles and patterned fabrics to cascading ribbons, vintage cars and charming storefronts. These objects are arranged in unexpected ways, creating theatrical compositions filled with rich textures, striking contrasts and meticulous details. Scratches, chipped surfaces and other signs of wear give each item a sense of history, hinting at the people who once used them.

Although human figures are absent from these paintings, their presence can be felt throughout. Paolo treats each arrangement like a miniature stage set, inviting us to imagine the stories behind these everyday possessions and discover something extraordinary in the ordinary.
