Michael Benisty’s Dreamlike Sculptures Reflect Fire, Light and Human Connection
Published Jun 11, 2026
Multidisciplinary artist Michael Benisty creates monumental sculptures that look like ethereal desert mirages. His mirror-polished stainless steel figures transform the human form into something luminous and otherworldly, placing bodies, spirits and symbolic creatures against vast landscapes where they seem to catch the sky, absorb the horizon and fold the world around them into their surfaces.
Michael’s earlier works explored politics, power and global relationships, while pieces like Die to Live, an eight-foot stainless steel skull covered in almost 350,000 black Swarovski crystals, pushed his work into a more theatrical, confrontational space.
In 2016, Benisty’s focus shifted toward symbols of peace, love, spirituality and enlightenment. That change can be felt across his most striking large-scale works, from towering chrome bodies breathing fire into the sky to ghostlike figures that seem to melt into the desert. His sculptures often appear caught between states: solid and fluid, human and divine, futuristic and ancient. The recurring subject is connection, and because the polished surfaces reflect everyone who stops to look, the sculptures fold the viewer into that idea.
