Miniature Worlds: Rachel Spelling’s Painted Color Charts

Published Nov 14, 2025

UK-based artist Rachel Spelling chose a truly unique canvas to work with — everyday paint charts. Her miniature paintings turn the familiar grids of household color samples into imaginative vignettes, each swatch revealing a tiny world within its shade.

Rachel’s work reflects her lifelong fascination with color and language. Each hue becomes both subject and setting: “Skylight” reveals a soft dawn horizon, “Hague Blue” a starry night, “Biscuit” a golden pastry. The results sit somewhere between still life, design history and poetry, evoking mid-century paint catalogues while re-enchanting their functional layouts with painterly storytelling.

You can explore more of Rachel Spelling’s captivating work and purchase her one-of-a-kind pieces on her website.
