Narrative-Driven Spirits: Packaging Design by Backbar Studios
Published Mar 17, 2026
Backbar Studios is an Irish design studio that crafts packaging solutions with a strong sense of character, prioritizing authentic storytelling over fleeting trends. While much of Backbar’s work sits in the drinks and alcohol category, their portfolio also extends into other areas, including confectionery.
Their designs often include stamp-like labels, retro lettering, foil details and sometimes even illustrated elements. In the Mr Fox label, for example, a black-and-white drawing of an elegant fox sits against contrasting blocks of color, giving the whiskey range a distinctive personality.
There is also a strong attention to finish and material detail throughout the work. Subtle embossing, textured papers and glass treatments are used with restraint, adding depth without overdoing it. If you’d like to see more of the studio’s work, head over to their website or explore their portfolio on Behance.
