Nothing Turntable(1): A Transparent Take on Vinyl by Sungwoo Choi

Industrial designer Sungwoo Choi imagines what a Nothing-designed record player might look like with Turntable(1), a personal project that translates the brand’s transparent aesthetic and playful interface design into the world of vinyl.

The turntable combines a translucent platter, exposed mechanical details and a partially transparent tonearm with a built-in speaker and dedicated Glyph Matrix display. Users can switch between vinyl and Bluetooth playback, control volume through a large tactile dial, access recording functions and even use a leveling guide, while support for external amplification keeps the concept grounded in a more traditional analog setup.

One of the most distinctive ideas is the Audio Visual Glyph Interface surrounding the platter. Its translucent edge diffuses light that responds to different audio frequencies, turning the movement of music into a subtle visual effect. Alongside the animated display, illuminated controls and carefully exposed internal components, the concept feels like a convincing extension of Nothing’s design philosophy into a category the brand has yet to explore.
