Path of Least Resistance: Elemental Hybrid Paintings by Jon Ching
Published Oct 21, 2026
We first featured Hawaiian artist Jon Ching ’s hybrid flora and fauna paintings back in 2022. Now based in LA, he returns with Path of Least Resistance, a new body of work on view at KP Projects through November 7.
The series pushes his signature hybrids into elemental territory, fusing birds, big cats and marine life with flame, smoke, stone and water. Each element plays a part. Stone represents stability and endurance. Water works as both obstacle and ally, a force that slips around resistance rather than meeting it head-on. That idea gives the exhibition its title.
Jon worked more intuitively this time, letting early sketches drift into entirely different compositions. The approach mirrors the theme. Some works carry pointed commentary, from habitat loss to an Orwell-inspired cluster of watchful pitcher plants, but most of the series draws from personal reflection.
You can explore the complete collection on the artist’s website.
