Pop Culture Stipple Drawings by Kenzo Sturdivant
Published Jun 25, 2026
Kanagawa-based artist Kenzo Sturdivant creates incredibly detailed stipple illustrations crafted from millions of tiny ink dots. Working by hand with pen and paper, his pieces turn a simple mark into dense fields of tone, texture and shadow.
Kenzo’s work brings together two worlds: the discipline of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and the energy of modern pop culture. His larger compositions are packed with references to games, animation, movies and graphic novels, layering familiar objects and characters into elaborate black-and-white arrangements. Some pieces can take months to complete, while his smaller works, including the ongoing Icons series, focus that same precision into more immediate studies of beloved figures, masks, creatures and symbols.
Starting from pencil sketches, Kenzo builds each image one dot at a time, using repetition and patience to create depth, volume and atmosphere. The final pieces feel nostalgic and meticulous, celebrating the characters and stories that shaped his imagination while pushing stippling into a bold contemporary space.
