Slanted Experimental Type 4.0: Pushing the Boundaries of Typography
Published Oct 16, 2026
German publisher Slanted is back with the fourth installment of its Experimental Type series, an inspiring collection of unconventional typographic experiments that challenge traditional approaches to letterform design. Created in collaboration with students from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, under the guidance of Lars Harmsen and Andreas Ruhe, the publication celebrates creative exploration, unexpected discoveries and the beauty of imperfection.
Across its 296 pages, Slanted Experimental Type 4.0 showcases an extraordinary variety of projects that transform typography into a playground for experimentation. Letters are stretched, distorted, fragmented and reconstructed through everything from digital algorithms and AI-generated systems to hands-on techniques involving unexpected materials.
Released in September 2026, the softcover edition features hot-foil embossing on its cover and offers a fascinating look at how contemporary designers are reimagining the possibilities of typography. You can find out more and order a copy through Slanted’s website.
