Surreal Psychedelic Worlds: Illustrations by Artupayra
Published Jun 8, 2026
Indonesian illustrator Evan Aryaputra, aka Artupayra, describes himself as a “surrealistic psychedelic magician,” and the title fits. His hand-drawn illustrations feature strange, cosmic worlds where retro sci-fi, ornamental framing and pop-surreal imagery collide in vivid color.
Artupayra leans into fluorescent palettes, fine linework and nostalgic textures, creating images that balance beauty and discomfort. In his dense compositions, figures drift through landscapes filled with snakes, moths, skulls, floating heads, glowing eyes, broken windows and old computer interfaces. Decorative borders wrap around many of the pieces like portals, giving each image the feeling of a tarot card, album cover or forgotten arcade screen from another dimension.
