Utopia Broadcasting: Otherworldly Industrial Landscapes by Serena Ho
Published Apr 30, 2026
Australian fine art photographer Serena Ho, now based in Iceland, transforms the country’s industrial and architectural landmarks into eerie dispatches from an imagined world in her digitally manipulated series 2021 ± II: Utopia Broadcasting.
Serena works with structures already embedded in the Icelandic landscape and reframes them as monuments of an unknown civilisation, suspended somewhere between the near future and a forgotten past. Pastel skies, recurring moons and carefully calibrated colour shifts drain each scene of its familiar utility.
Her interventions are subtle but effective, stripping context while amplifying form, until each structure feels detached from time and place. These are sites of function and extraction, yet framed as something aspirational, even utopian. Serena’s images carry both concepts at once, asking whether this imagined future is a projection of progress or a veiled warning about where that thinking leads.
