Where Roads Disappear: Radoslav Sviretsov’s Journey Through Iceland’s Highlands
Published Jun 22, 2026
Bulgarian landscape photographer and architect Radoslav Sviretsov, who is now based in Iceland, is back on the grid with a new photo essay that ventures far beyond the country’s familiar waterfalls, beaches and roadside viewpoints.
Titled Where Roads Disappear, the series explores the Icelandic Highlands, a vast volcanic wilderness shaped by fire, ice and unpredictable weather. Reaching these places means leaving paved roads behind, crossing rivers and following rough mountain tracks into one of Europe’s last truly wild regions.
Seen from above, the terrain looks incredibly abstract. Bright green moss cuts through the black terrain like glowing veins and melting snow carves delicate branching patterns across the land. The series is a striking portrait of Iceland’s interior as a harsh but fragile place, where silence, scale and shifting light turn the landscape into something otherworldly.
