World Cup Energy: Soccer Illustrations by Tavo Santiago
Published Mar 11, 2026
As we gear up for the 2026 World Cup, Mexican illustrator Tavo Santiago reimagines some of the world’s most iconic players through a lens of high-energy, contemporary folk art. The series combines the intensity of soccer with geometric compositions that draw from Mexican visual culture.
Tavo’s illustrations have a graphic punch that feels immediate and playful, featuring bold outlines, flat colors and sharp framing. In some pieces, mythological references appear alongside players, with celestial symbols and decorative forms woven into the scenes, while others place football heroes like Zidane, Ronaldo, Mbappé and Messi inside dynamic comic book-style layouts.
