A Contemporary Gothic Identity for L’Archivolte Arts Center by Aparté Studio
Published Feb 23, 2026
Housed inside an 18th century chapel in Avignon, L’Archivolte Arts Center has a strong architectural presence. To develop its new visual identity, Paris-based Aparté Studio looked directly at the building’s history and structure, translating its vaulted forms and ecclesiastical references into a distinctive graphic system.
The refreshed Gothic monogram is defined by sharp, angular strokes that echo the chapel’s stone architecture and carved lettering. An arch motif appears as a recurring frame across posters and digital formats, cropping photography into chapel-like windows. A saturated purple, historically associated with the clergy, gives the brand a bold, contemporary edge while acknowledging the venue’s heritage.
The typography pairing reinforces the tension between old and new. A dramatic display serif shapes titles, while a clean sans-serif handles supporting text and practical information.
