Cooperapoly: Redesigning Monopoly for a Better World
Published Nov 5, 2025
Spanish designers Clara Briones Vedia and Antton Ugarte have reimagined the world’s most iconic board game with an educational twist. Created for the Onay Organization’s Solidarity Schools program, Cooperapoly transforms the classic Monopoly formula into a collaborative learning tool focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
Rather than competing for wealth and property, players in Cooperapoly work together to understand global challenges like inequality and climate action through dynamic, cooperative gameplay. The design brings this concept to life with a bright, modern aesthetic: playful geometric shapes, expressive icons, and friendly colors replace the usual corporate visuals. Even the typography and packaging reflect inclusivity and optimism, inviting students to engage with complex global topics in a friendly, accessible way.
