Yuputira Residence by Mariko Mori & Ring Architects

Conceived by Japanese artist Mariko Mori and crafted in collaboration with Ring Architects, the Yuputira Residence is a striking structure on Miyako Island in Japan. This architectural masterpiece reflects Mariko’s artistic philosophy, showcasing her distinctive minimalist and futuristic style in an impressive scale.

Known for her focus on luminescent, translucent and ultra-minimalist aesthetics, Mariko has created a home that is as much a sculpture as it is a dwelling. The design draws inspiration from the bleached shells scattered along the island’s pristine shores, creating a sense of harmony with the surrounding landscape.

The residence itself is a rounded structure, resembling Mariko’s large sculptural works. Its fluid form not only integrates seamlessly into the natural environment but also serves as a personal sanctuary for the artist. The thoughtfully designed layout includes an upper-level studio that allows Mariko to pursue her creative projects within the beautiful and serene setting of the island.
